Believe it or not, the colors on the interiors and exteriors of homes can affect home values. Each year there are new colors that are on trend. There are others that never go out of style such as white, black, and some shades of beiges and grays. Coordinating color palettes is also a plus when thinking about what colors to paint the exterior and interior of your home. Colors that work in harmony with each other can add to the beauty of your home.

Exterior Home Colors

The exterior of your home is what people see first. Your home's exterior colors create the centerpiece of your curb appeal and can say a lot about you. An April 6, 2022 article, The Top 10 Exterior Paint Color Trends to Try on Your Home in 2022 on bhg.com (Better Homes & Gardens) written by Elizabeth Sweet states, "While exteriors are typically less susceptible to fleeting design trends, we've noticed a shift in popular house paint colors. Traditional bright whites are being traded for more confident, statement-making palettes on siding, trim, and front doors. Think vibrant blues and greens, creamy neutrals, cheerful pastels, and even monochromatic schemes of charcoal and black." According to behr.com, the Top 10 Exterior Colors are:

Black
Off White
Polar Bear
Spanish Sand
Espresso Beans
Harvest Brown
Baked Sienna
Teton Blue
Stone Brown
Khaki Shade

With the stress of modern day life, people want to bring more joyful colors into the color schemes of their homes, both inside and out. Add a color to your trim, shutters and doors that work in harmony with your siding. The bhg.com article reveals that Nivara Xaykao, color marketing and development associate manager at Benjamin Moore, says, "Just giving your siding a fresh coat of paint or adding a pop of color to your door can do a lot to rejuvenate the exterior and make it a place where you want to hang out."

Interior Home Colors

Changing up the interior colors of your home is an ideal way to improve your mood. As with exterior home color palettes, homeowners are inviting colors that depict peace, happiness, optimism and positivity into their homes. A great article, Trend Forecast: 2022 Colors and Palettes of the Year, written by Lauren Oster on hgtv.com highlights color palettes for the interior of your home to make you feel, "oh-so serene." The article shares, "These clarifying blues, delicate greens and grounded earth tones nudge interiors awake and aim us at a horizon that's brimming with optimism." If you want to add a feeling of nature and serenity to your rooms, try Sherwin-Williams' Evergreen Fog (SW 9130) paired with Urbane Bronze (SW 7048.) According to the same article on hgtv.com if you want to add joy and happiness, and "the expansive possibilities that lie before us," you may want to utilize Pantone's Color of the Year, Very Peri, into the color schemes of your home. Paint an accent wall or an entire room with this "brand-new blue- a vivifying violet with electric red undertones. Last year, the color Ultimate Gray was trending. This year, warmer beiges with pops of color are coming back.

Keeping up with the colors of your home, inside and out, will help keep your home value high. This practice will also keep your mood elevated and your home a place you really enjoy being.
